High speed steel analysis

High-speed steel is a well-known material used in the production of cutting tools and drill bits, where mechanical properties play an important role in the instruments' lifetime. 

Thanks to AFM-in-SEM technology, the area of interest was easily identified, and the material’s mechanical properties were measured. Using the nanoindentation module, the nanohardness and Young modulus of particular grains was evaluated.
