Read the new research article AFM, SEM and TEM Study of Damage Mechanisms in Cyclically Strained MAR-M247 at Room Temperature and High Temperatures
Specimens of the MAR-M247 superalloy were cyclically strained at different temperatures. The fatigue hardening and softening, the effect of temperature on plastic strain localization, and fatigue crack initiation were observed and measured. The plastic strain localization resulted in the formation of persistent strip markings (PSMs) on the surface of specimens. The surface relief after low cycle fatigue tests at 23 °C, 700 °C, and 800 °C was observed using AFM LiteScope™ in tapping mode. Correlative Probe and Electron Microscopy (CPEM) was used for the reconstruction of the surface in 3D.
